The Palakkad District Co-operative Hospital and Research Centre Ltd No P-878 was founded under the leadership of Sri. CV Ramachandran, the former President of the Palakkad District Co-operative Bank, driven by the ethos of “all for each and each for all.” Guided by foresight, the initial administrative committee acquired 34 acres of land in Kallekkad at Pirayiri Panchayath, laying a robust foundation for the hospital’s inception. In1989, under the presidency of Sri M S Gopalakrishnan, then Chairman of the Palakkad Municipality, the hospital commenced its journey in a modest rented building at Kalmandapam, initially serving 25 patients. Under the presidency of Sri K A Chandran (Ex M.L.A) in 1993, the hospital witnessed significant growth. A unit was established in Thattamangalam in 1994. As a result of high-quality treatment, compassionate approach and adherence to cooperative principles, patient numbers grew, prompting the relocation of hospital by taking over the premises under the management of Krishna Hospital where 40 in-patients were initially accommodated. With further increase in patient numbers, the hospital expanded its capacity to accommodate 150 patients, incorporating specialized departments to address the evolving needs of the patients. Despite these expansions, the hospital recognized the need for a dedicated facility and embarked on the construction of its own hospital on its land in Kallekkad. The foundation for this hospital was laid in 2008, with construction commencing in 2010 and was successfully completed in December 2013, with a visionary goal of eventually becoming a medical college. Upon completion, our new hospital in Kallekkad will boast a total in-patient capacity of 500 beds. Presently, the hospital accommodates 150 beds. Our primary focus remains on providing superior treatment at affordable rates, primarily catering to common and middle-class patients, in alignment with our core vision.
Through our dedicated team of healthcare professionals and staff, we aim to provide high-quality medical treatment, preventive care, and health education programs that address the unique needs of our community. Our mission is for transforming our unit at Kallekkad into a distinguished Medical College, committed to nurturing future healthcare professionals with the highest standards of competence and compassion. We are committed to upholding the principles of cooperative movement promoting values of self-help, self responsibility, equality, equity and solidarity and community empowerment through accessible and equitable healthcare.
We envision a healthier and more equitable society where access to quality healthcare is not determined by one’s socioeconomic status. As a hospital incorporated under the cooperative sector, we strive to be a beacon of hope and healing for individuals and families facing financial hardship, illness, and adversity. Our vision is to expand our reach and impact, reaching more underserved communities and providing comprehensive healthcare services that promote wellness, prevent disease, and improve overall quality of life.
